Neuro linguistic programming has proven a successful stand alone technique in the area of smoking cessation.
Neuro – can be interpreted as the nervous system through which we receive and process our experiences via our five senses (sight, hearing, feeling, smell, taste).
Linguistic – can be interpreted as language and non-verbal communication system through which we code and give meaning to our experiences.
Programming – can be interpreted as the ability to organise our communication and automatic programs and change programs no longer useful to us, to achieve desired goals or results.
Neuro Linguistic Programming was developed in the seventies by Richard Bandler and John Grinder.
NLP is based on the knowledge that we create much of our experiences through the way we see, hear and feel things in our mind/body. We have been doing this all our lives but we have thought of it as thinking.
NLP looks at us as individuals and how we code and process our experiences, because once we understand the specific way our brain makes distinctions then it is easier to make the desired changes.
Although NLP has become well known for the fast phobia cure, it is continuing to evolve and is a valuable methodology that can be applied in many areas.
NLP re-arranges the way you internally represent and feel about cigarettes and smoking in the present, so that you represent them in the future in a new and more resourceful way without the old limiting habit and cravings. This allows you to move in a new direction towards the outcome or goal you desire.
